34" 1970s Vintage Squash Blossom Necklace

  • 34" 1970s Vintage Squash Blossom Necklace - Historically, the squash blossom necklace serves as a reminder of the close interaction between the Pueblo and Navajo Indians since the mid-1800s.

Traditional and wonderful: this vintage Native-made estate necklace has five side squash blossoms and a naja pendant made up of six more stones, all with their stylized encircling feathers and inset stones, even tendrils delicately emerging as shiny balls! An exquisite piece of workmanship. The necklace's handmade Navajo Pearls are doubled up in support. The large Naja pendant section is 5" long and the stone shapes echo their position in the curve. The turquoise is Sleeping Beauty but rubbed with what's called a red rouge finish, a common thing at that time, to bring variation in the usually true blue stone that comes from that mine. It has a secure clasp. We have not taken any cleaning chemicals to it, so it has a great vintage patina. It is one of the most stunning squashes we've seen in a while! Stamped on back with a capital "P."
